AutoX, battery manufacturer of Willard and SABAT Batteries, continues where it left off last year when it secured the naming rights sponsorship for the Els for Autism South Africa 21/22 Golf Series.
The Els for Autism Foundation was established in 2009 by Ernie and Liezl Els a few years after discovering that their son, Ben, was impacted by the disorder, which affects 1 in 59 individuals.
Els for Autism aims to provide families across the globe with best practice interventions and support. In early January 2011, Ernie and Liezl Els embarked on a goal to create a service that would allow families of children on the spectrum in South Africa with free access to effective treatment.
“Being associated with Els for Autism has been a great privilege and has proved to be an enriching experience for all of us who have been involved”, explained Corné Strydom, Sales & Marketing Executive for AutoX.
Els for Autism South Africa provides families of children on the autism spectrum with comprehensive training on how to use best practices in education and autism practices to teach their child. It recognises that every parent and family member plays an important role in helping their child reach his or her fullest potential, empowering caregivers by educating those in the lower-resourced autism communities throughout South Africa.
“Recently we had the honour of handing over a further donation to Nico van Rensburg and Inga Mdlatu from Els for Autism to assist with the development of a vocational centre,” continued Corné Strydom. “This year, Els for Autism has been focusing on empowering learners entering the vocational centre and is currently running a pilot offering a weekly soft skills training programme for a group of young adults on the autism spectrum. AutoX’s contribution provides impetus to this programme which concentrates on professionalism, self-advocacy, communication, and other soft skills relating to success in any workplace.”
