New year, new you, and now maybe you’re looking for a new car. But what brands and models will grace us with their presence on the dealership floor in 2024?
If you forgot about the gems that drove onto our streets last year, you can look back at the excitement around the new vehicles in 2023.
But let’s not dwell on the past; rather, let’s take a look at what cars are entering South Africa in 2024.
Some Facelifts And The Volkswagen Tiguan
Volkswagen SA is looking to pull a rabbit from their hat in 2024.
Volkswagen AG board member and Volkswagen Passenger Cars CEO Thomas Schaefer has recommended that the government focus on fixing the country’s Eskom problem, saying,
“Eventually, you have to say, ‘Why are we building cars in a less competitive factory far away from the real market where the consumption is?’ I’m very worried about it… We’re not in the business of charity,”
Bearing this in mind, the plant is safe for now. But in the shadow of this news, the company is releasing one exciting model.
Volkwagen Tiguan Third Generation
Introduced at the 2023 Munich Motor Show, the third generation delivers a minimalistic, sleek, and sharp exterior design. It also offers VW’s IQ.DRIVE driver-assistance system as standard.
Other features included in the new generation are upgrades to the auto-high beam headlamps, rain-sensing wipers, and wireless charging. Under the bonnet, you can expect the heart of the Tiguan to range from a 1.4 to 2.0 TSI.
The electric drive train is expected to be ready next year.
The company is also due to announce facelifts for the T-Cross and Touareg, but we’ll need to wait and see.
Toyota Announcing Big Arrivals
The Japanese firm has announced that in 2024, Toyota will introduce two new vehicles that will excite South African adventurers: the Land Cruiser 70-Series and Land Cruiser Prado.
Let’s start with the all-new fifth-generation Land Cruiser Prado.
Toyota Land Cruiser Prado
With its new bold retro design mated to its new TNGA-F ladder-frame chassis (adding 30% more rigidity) and new mechanical upgrades, the new Prado will be a hot seller in 2024.
It is expected to start selling within the first six months of this year. The 2024 Prado is larger than the outgoing model and claims to have an impressive 31-degree approach angle and 22-degree departure angle.
Also, internationally, the new generation will be available with a hybrid technology drivetrain. South Africa will have to wait and see, though.
Land Cruiser 70-Series
The 2024 Toyota Land Cruiser 70 Series will continue its legacy as a rugged workhorse, dating back to its debut in 1984. Receiving a subtle facelift, the new 70 will switch from the logo badge to the older Toyota font treatment, which is reminiscent of the original model.
While the design changes are subtle, you can expect the new model to have loads of new features, such as lane departure alert, road speed sign assist, and automatic high beams (from those epic LED lights). This will be a hard one to beat.
But there’s a brand making real inroads in 2024.
Look Out For Ford
While officially declaring that the brand will introduce two new models to the market in the form of the Territory and Mustang, the company has also announced expansions in their ranges.
But let’s focus on the new model releases.
